Latin American film series focuses on "Love, Greed and Violence in Mexican Technicolor" PDF Print

COLUMBUS, OH – The Center for Latin American Studies is focusing its winter quarter film series on “Love, Greed, and Violence in Mexican Technicolor.” As part of its continuing outreach efforts to educate the community about business, politics, culture and the arts in Latin America, the center selects films that will help the public enhance its knowledge and understanding of this region of the world.

All films are in Spanish with English subtitles and are free and open to the public.

“Perfume de Violetas: Nadie Te Oye/Violet Perfume: Nobody Hears You,” a tale of a troubled girl in Mexico City that transcends societal neglect and gender oppression. The film is the winner of Ariel Awards for Best Actress, Art Direction, Costume Design, Screenplay and Supporting Actress.

“Amores Perros,” combines three tales of morality with realistic, visceral portrayals of desperate living and broken dreams. This film has been compared to Pulp Fiction’s genius ability to intertwine multiple narratives and its use of bold kinetic styles. “Amores Perros” was named Best Film at the Chicago, Tokyo and Moscow International Film Festivals.
