COLUMBUS — The Office of International Education at Ohio State will host the 5th Annual Wolfe Study Abroad Recognition Luncheon to honor twenty-five student recipients of Wolfe Study Abroad Scholarships. The luncheon will be held at the Ohio State University Faculty Club on Thursday, May 13, 2004, at 11:45 am. Mr. John F. Wolfe, Chairman, Publisher and CEO of the Dispatch Printing Company, Ohio State President Karen Holbrook, and selected university faculty, staff and students will be among the guests at this event. The Wolfe Study Abroad Scholarships Endowed Fund, established September 1, 1999, with a gift of $1,000,000 from the Dispatch Printing Company of Columbus, Ohio has helped over 100 undergraduate students from Ohio to study abroad in 33 countries. These awards are intended for students with hometowns in Ohio, with preference given to students from Central Ohio. This year students will use the scholarships to study in the following countries: Belgium, Netherlands, France, Spain, Germany, Canada, Italy, Australia, Czech Republic, England, China, Sweden, Russia, Scotland, and Denmark. According to an Office of International Education survey, when students at Ohio State were asked why they had not studied abroad, nearly 70% indicated that they could not afford it. Some said they did not have the money to cover travel costs, while others indicated they could not leave jobs while in school or give up summer employment. However, thanks to the Wolfe Study Abroad Scholarships Endowed Fund, every year an additional twenty-five students now find it possible to study abroad. |
