Summer Quarter Programs

UNIVERSITE DE BOURGOGNE – CIEF IN DIJON, FRANCE
Offered: Summer Quarter
Length of Term: 8 weeks
Credit and courses: Earn 15 credit hours for courses beyond French 101

This is a very popular French language immersion program.  Participants will receive 17 hours of classroom instruction per week, and earn 15 hours of French credit from Ohio State. The CIEF provides various levels of French instruction and is able to accommodate students from beginning to advanced levels of French. Student/s will live in a residence hall and an Ohio State resident director will live on site. As part of the program’s cultural component, participants will be able to choose from many local cultural excursions and activities. The CIEF will also take the group on a three-day tour of the castles in the Loire Valley and a week-end excursion to Paris. This program is open to all students who have taken French 101 and have a minimum 2.5 GPA.

CIC STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM IN QUÉBEC CITY, CANADA
OFFERED: SUMMER QUARTER
Length of term: 5 weeks
Credit and Courses: Earn 12 credit hours for courses beyond French 103

The CIC program is a five-week summer program administered by the University of Iowa and hosted by the Université Laval in Québec City. The program provides seven levels of French language instruction. Students can choose courses in language, literature and culture and can select to live with French speaking families or in university dormitories. Applicants must be 18 years of age, and have completed at least one year of university level French or the equivalent (which means through 103 at OSU). A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Admission is selective.

Autumn, Winter or Spring Programs

BEGINNING LEVEL FRENCH LANGUAGE PROGRAM AT ECOLE FRANCE LANGUE IN PARIS OR NICE, FRANCE
Offered: Autumn, Winter, Spring Quarters
Length of Term: 8 weeks
Credit and Courses: Earn 15 credit hours for French 102, 103, and 104.

This is an intensive program designed for beginners in French who would like to complete their language requirement in France. Participants will receive 20 hours of classroom instruction per week, and earn 15 hours of French credit. Students must have completed or have credit for French 101 at Ohio State prior to departure. Students have a choice to live with a host family or in a residence hall. This program is open to students with a minimum 2.5 GPA and who have taken French 101. This program is not open to students who have already taken French 102 or above.  

Semester and Academic Year Programs

This is a French language immersion program. Participants will receive 17 hours of classroom instruction per week, and earn 24 hours of French credit from OSU. The CIEF provides various levels of French instruction and is able to accommodate students from beginning to advanced levels of French. Students will live in the international residence hall. As part of the program’s cultural component, participants will be able to choose from many local cultural excursions and activities. This program is open to all students who have taken French 101 and have a minimum 2.5 GPA.  

ISA FRENCH LANGUAGE PROGRAM AT INSTITUT CATHOLIQUE DE PARIS IN PARIS, FRANCE
Offered: Academic Year (AU, WI + SP Quarters)
Length of term: Fall Semester (AU Quarter)
Winter Semester (WI + SP Quarters)
Credit and courses: Full time credit for French courses. Exact amount depends on hours enrolled.

In this program, students attend French language classes at France’s renowned Institut Catholique de Paris in central Paris.  Students must be 18 years of age, have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and must have completed at least FREN 102 at OSU by the time the program commences.  Upon arrival, the Institut Catholique administers a language placement test to determine your level of French.  There are courses for all levels of French.  The ISA office in Paris arranges for housing and meals through local home stays, coordinates cultural activities and field trips and has an onsite Resident Director, computer lab and small resource library.  

ISA FRENCH LANGUAGE PROGRAM AT THE SORBONNE IN PARIS, FRANCE
Offered: Academic Year (AU, WI + SP Quarters)
Length of term: Fall Semester (AU Quarter)
Winter Semester (WI + SP Quarters)
Credit and courses: Full time credit for French courses.  Exact amount depends on hours enrolled.

In this program, students attend French language classes at France’s renowned Sorbonne University in central Paris. Students must be 18 years of age, have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and must have completed at least FREN 201 at OSU by the time the program commences. Upon arrival, the Sorbonne administers a language placement test to determine your level of French.  Courses are available for intermediate and advanced levels of French. The ISA office in Paris arranges for housing and meals through local home stays, coordinates cultural activities and field trips and has an onsite Resident Director, computer lab and small resource library.  

IES FRENCH LANGUAGE PROGRAM IN NANTES, FRANCE
Offered: Academic Year (AU, WI + SP Quarters)
Length of term:  Fall Semester (AU Quarter)
Winter Semester (WI + SP Quarters)
Credit and courses: Full time credit for French courses.  Exact amount depends on hours enrolled.

In this program, students attend French language classes at the IES Center in Nantes and may attend courses at the University of Nantes. Applicants must be 18 years of age and have a sophomore standing; they must possess a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and have completed FREN 403 at Ohio State before the beginning of the program. Upon arrival, IES administers a language placement test to determine your level of French. Students live with host families.  The IES Center coordinates cultural activities and field trips and has an onsite Resident Director, computer lab and small resource library.
