Opening the Door to Another Culture PDF Print

The Office of International Affairs congratulates you for taking advantage of one of the many options offered through Study Abroad at The Ohio State University. Studying abroad will bring new meaning to the global contacts you enjoy through the Internet everyday. It will give you a firsthand perspective of a society in another country and allow you to personally witness and become involved in another culture. By studying abroad you are opening the door to a myriad of experiences and opportunities you will remember for a lifetime.

Our role at the Office of International Affairs is to develop, coordinate, and foster international education, scholarship, and service activities on the Ohio State campus. We provide the leadership and innovation to facilitate global opportunities for the university, its faculty, and its students. It is our goal to support the international dimension of Ohio State’s mission and engage you in the process. Study abroad is just one way for you to become involved in cross-cultural interaction and enjoy a rewarding educational opportunity.

When you study in another country, you will learn about different cultures and languages, and you will be exposed to a whole new way of living. By welcoming a different culture and embracing the experience, you will also learn to see yourself and your culture in a different light. Remember to keep an open mind while studying abroad. It will change your perspective so that you have a more personal understanding of our growing global community.

Our Study Abroad Handbook will help answer your questions and prepare you for your experience in your host country and your return to Ohio State. Please review the handbook carefully and attend the pre-departure orientations so that you are better prepared for your study abroad program. We are committed to adding a global dimension to your education.

If you need additional information or assistance from our Study Abroad staff, please contact them at (614) 292-6101 or abroad@oia.osu.edu
