Isn't Study Abroad Expensive? The Office of International Affairs strives to develop programs that are as affordable as possible. All Ohio State students may apply for overseas study grants and apply most forms of their financial aid to the program costs. Won't Study Abroad Keep Me From Graduating On Time?Ohio State grants graded academic credit for study abroad programs, so you can continue to make regular academic progress. In fact, the majority of students who study overseas complete their coursework by their intended graduation date. You can earn course credits for foreign language classes, GEC classes, or classes related to your major, and often you’ll know before you leave how much credit you’ll earn. My Major Isn't Really 'International.' What Subjects Can I Study Abroad? You don't need to have an international major. You can study anything abroad! You can also take courses in your minor, satisfy GEC requirements, or try something else. Experiences and skills that you learn while abroad can apply to almost any area. Don't You Have To Be An 'A' Student To Study Abroad? No, but you do need to be academically ready to study overseas. Generally a G.P.A. of 2.5 is required. I Don't Speak A Foreign Language. Can I Still Study Abroad?Despite what you might think, you don’t have to be a foreign language major to study abroad. Our large variety of programs allows for many different study abroad experiences. Many of our programs do require a foreign language background, others actually provide you with intensive foreign language study, and others allow you to study in English. Isn't It Going To Be Difficult?Study abroad is challenging but we will provide orientation programs before your departure, introduce you to Ohio State students who have studied abroad, give you information about getting your passport, talk about health and safety, get to know other people in your program, and much more. When Should I Study Abroad? Some programs require junior or senior standing, however, most study abroad programs can be arranged anytime, beginning your freshman year. How Long can I Study Abroad? We have programs that last as little as one week, and as long as one year, and everything in between! When Should I Start Planning To Study Abroad? Now! It's never too early to start planning. Ideally a year in advance of your departure allows sufficient time for thorough planning and preparation.
