Workshops and Sessions for International Students and Families

All workshops and sessions will be held in 122 Oxley Hall

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Workshop

Temporary employment such as an internship, practicum, and alternative work-study or cooperative education may be authorized under certain circumstances as curricular practical training (CPT). Such training must not only be related to your major field of study but must also be an integral part of your established curriculum still in progress. CPT is a benefit of being an F-1 Student. CPT is an application process and is subject to evaluation. This workshop will help you understand the eligibility and application procedures.

Optional Practical Training (OPT) Workshop

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is intended to provide hands-on practical work experience that is directly related to a student's major area of study.  It is authorized by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for a maximum of 12 months. It is available to students who have been lawfully enrolled on a full-time basis for at least one academic year (9 months). OPT is a benefit of being an F-1 Student. OPT is an application process and is subject to evaluation. This workshop will help you understand the eligibility and application procedures.

Family Session: Part 1 – Adjusting to American Culture

The Family Session: Part 1 will allow F-2 and J-2 dependents the opportunity to gather information about life in Columbus, Ohio. Topics will include benefits and opportunities of being a “dependent,” transportation, general household maintenance and tips for adjusting to American culture. You are welcome to bring your lunch and eat during the session.

Family Session: Part 2 – Adjusting to American Culture

The Family Session: Part 2 will allow F-2 and J-2 dependents the opportunity to express their excitement and frustrations about adjusting to American culture. Topics will be focused around the stages of adjustment and how to work through the joys and challenges of being in the United States. You are welcome to bring your lunch and eat during the session.
