The Sonkin-Bergman-Wasserman Families' Scholarship for International Understanding and Peace provides awards for deserving graduate/professional students at The Ohio State University active in research or study that contributes to the pursuit of international understanding and peace. The Spring 2008 competition deadline was April 11, 2008.

Established on March 2, 1984, Sonkin-Bergman-Wasserman Families' Scholarship for International Understanding and Peace provides one or more awards (pending availability of funds) for deserving graduate/professional students at The Ohio State University active in research or study that contributes to the pursuit of international understanding and peace.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled full time at Ohio State in a graduate or professional program with a focus on international problems, in any department or interdisciplinary field;

  • Demonstrated excellence in scholarship and an appropriate background for the proposed research or study;

  • Intention to engage in research at Ohio State or outside the United States that is concerned with enhancing the understanding of peoples in different cultures, improving the quality of social justice among nations, or exploring methods for international conflict avoidance or conflict resolution;

  • Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated financial need.

Completed Application Consists of the Following 

  1. Sonkin-Bergman-Wasserman Application Form;

  2. An official up-to-date Ohio State transcript; 

  3. A sealed letter from your advisor addressing the merits of the proposal and the qualifications of the applicant; 

  4. Abbreviated curriculum vitae (listing educational background, completed coursework, professional activities and publications as they relate to the purpose of this scholarship);

  5. Statement of proposed study or research (1000 words max).  This statement should clearly explain your proposed plan of research or study, as it relates to the purpose of this scholarship.
     

Application Deadline

The Sonkin-Bergman-Wasserman Families’ Scholarship For International Understanding and Peace competitions are held annually during the spring quarter.

The Spring 2008 competition deadline is Friday, April 11, 2008 by 5 p.m.
