Neckermann Scholarships Awarded for Study in Germany |

The Office of International Affairs recently awarded the Jutta and Peter Neckermann Study Abroad Scholarship to eight undergraduate students. The students have been accepted into study abroad programs in Germany that include a wide range of disciplines from language to the applied sciences. |

$90,000 in Grants Awarded for International Projects |

The Office of International Affairs recently awarded nine faculty members and 24 students with grants totaling $90,000 to be used for research projects or student programs that are international in scope. The International Affairs grant program supports projects that advance the understanding of foreign countries, cultures and peoples through academic study. Grants are given for projects that explore the languages, cultures, arts, politics, economy, or socio-demographic aspects of a foreign region. Proposals addressing global issues are also eligible if these issues are explored in a regional context. This includes proposals about public health, public policy and climate change, among others. |

Sonkin-Bergman-Wasserman Scholarships Awarded |

The Office of International Affairs recently awarded the Sonkin-Bergman-Wasserman Families’ Scholarships for International Understanding and Peace to two graduate students, Sally Fleming (Comparative Politics) and Jonathan Hall (Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology). This scholarship provides awards for deserving graduate/professional students at The Ohio State University active in research or study that contributes to the pursuit of international understanding and peace. |

Kathryn Anne Carlson and Barbara Anne Papalios have each been awarded the Isabel Liu $1,000 scholarship to study abroad. The Office of International Affairs administers this grant that is made possible through the generosity of Isabel Liu and her support of the study abroad program for undergraduate students at Ohio State. |

The Office of International Affairs recently awarded a Phyllis Krumm Memorial International Scholarship to three graduate students, Stewart Birkby (Education), William Lywood (History) and Scott Powell (Political Science). The Krumm Scholarship is given to graduate students for research or study in a European country or in China. |

Center for Latin American Studies presents "Quase Dois Irmaos" (Almost Brothers) |

A winner of 11 awards at multiple South American festivals, the Center for Latin American Studies will feature Quase Dois Irmaos as its final feature film for spring quarter. The film, which will be shown Wednesday (5/28) in 180 Hagerty Hall at 7:30 p.m., looks at the severe class inequalities in Brazil over a four decade period as experienced by two childhood friends. |

Service learning program in Nicaragua now accepting applications |

The Ohio State University at Newark is pleased to again offer its service learning study abroad program in Nicaragua. Students with a sense of adventure and a desire to learn in a non-traditional setting must apply no later than May 19 to be considered for the program. The group will travel to Masaya, Nicaragua from December 11-23 and will learn about north-south relations, fair trade, development, conservation, local culture and more. Any Ohio State University student is eligible to apply; however, students must enroll in CS 694 in autumn 2008. |

Assistant Professor and Two Doctoral Candidates Awarded Fulbright-Hays Grants |

One faculty member and two doctoral candidates from The Ohio State University have been awarded the prestigious Fulbright-Hays grant by the U.S. Department of Education. Morgan Liu, an assistant professor in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, is the recipient of the Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad grant, and students Michael Ewers from the Department of Geography, and Mark Soderstrom from the Department History, are the recipients of the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad grants. |
